Liz Strathy Merrill & Nick Merrill, a mortgage professional and a personal trainer from Seattle Washington heard about the water situation in sub-Saharan Africa and decided to do something really big to help. On August 27th they will set off on foot from Portland Oregon and start running. Over the next three days they will keep running until they reach Seattle Washington, a distance of approximately 200 miles.
Not being people that want to do anything small they are trying to put water wells in 10 schools in Africa, providing fresh clean water for thousands of children who up until now have had to walk miles every day to get water.
This is an excerpt from the e-mail I received from Liz
"As we go through our lives here in America it is hard to imagine our children having to walk 6 miles or more for a sip of water, or from suffering all of the disease that comes from unclean drinking water. Wanting to help in some way, we decided to use our love of running to raise money for people in less fortunate surroundings"
