A number of people have reached out to us in recent days asking about the current Ebola outbreak and whether we had any updates to share. Because this is not the kind of newsletter we would normally send, we wanted to provide a brief update on what we are seeing on the ground and how Drop in the Bucket is responding.
As many of you know, Drop in the Bucket works in the border region between Uganda and South Sudan, placing us in a unique position to support both Ebola preparedness efforts and the ongoing cholera response.
In South Sudan, cholera remains a significant concern, particularly in communities along the border. Through our partnership with Nimule Hospital, we are supporting community outreach efforts by funding community health workers who are going door-to-door sharing critical information about cholera prevention, Ebola awareness, and when to seek medical care.
We are also providing protective equipment to healthcare workers at the hospital and supporting cholera prevention efforts through the distribution of chlorine tablets and community education.
Because of DROP’s extensive education and women’s health programs throughout the region, we are able to incorporate prevention messaging into all of our activities, helping students, mothers, and community members bring accurate information home to their families. We are also conducting radio programs to help combat misinformation and ensure communities receive reliable public health guidance.
On the Uganda side of the border, we continue to provide targeted support to frontline aid workers and response teams with whom we work closely, helping address urgent needs as they arise while receiving regular updates on the evolving situation.
We remain in close communication with local health authorities and partners on both sides of the border and will continue to share updates as the situation develops.
