Faith Academy is an elementary school in Kabonela, which is located in Uganda’s Masaka District. Although it is only attended by 130 students (45 boys and 85 girls) there was an urgent need for clean water at the school. The school is in a very poor community, and many of the children live at the school. 70 of the students are orphans, and 5 have special needs. Even though the well is at the school grounds, the water is being used by Faith Academy and several other neighboring schools. Four nearby villages are also benefitting from the new well.
The previous nearest source of safe drinking water was a local well that is 1.5 kilometers away from the school which is a long walk for these small children. The only way villagers could obtain water from this well was by putting large stones in it to raise the water level. Without putting stones in the water ,the well was unusable.
