The Awee Health Center is in the Gulu District of northern Uganda. It is located in the Pece district and the Yeegwana parish.
On the average day the health center treats approximately 200 patients for common waterborne diseases, stomach parasites, diarrhea, malaria, infections and many common but life-threatening diseases. The clinic is also the main place that people in the go when someone is about to give birth, so having clean water is crucial.
The staff at the health center include a clinical officer, a nursing officer, nursing assistants and other nurses, for a total of 18 people.
When we were approached about drilling a well for the health center we were told they were unable to properly clean their instruments and medical equipment and were unable to buy enough water for such a large number of patients each day.
