The Angole Health Center is in the Paikat village, which is in the Awere sub-County of the Pader district in Uganda. The name Angole comes from the parish of the same name where the health center is located. The health center sees on average 50 patients per day for a variety of ailments, but diseases caused by drinking unsafe water were always high on that list. Despite that, the health center’s water situation was far from ideal.
The nearest source of water was a shallow well that had been dug during the LRA insurgency. The area had become a refuge for people fleeing the fighting and due to the large number of people and the severe lack of sanitation in the area, the well soon became contaminated.
The patients and staff of the health center, left with little option but to use this water. They knew it was making them sick, but they had no choice.
All of that has changed now that the Angole health center has clean water. You can read more about this well here.
