Ated Rwot Community Before the Well
Ated Rwot is a water-stressed community in Nwoya District, northern Uganda. Before the borehole was drilled, safe water was not available within the village, and households depended on distant and unreliable sources to meet their daily needs.
Women and children spent long hours collecting water, often from unsafe sources. During the dry season, water scarcity became more severe, increasing health risks and adding to the daily workload for families.
What We Built in the Ated Rwot Community
Drop in the Bucket drilled a community borehole well and installed a standard hand pump with a reinforced concrete apron and upgraded stainless-steel riser pipes. The site was selected to provide central, safe access for households across the community.
By placing the well within the village, families now have a reliable source of clean water close to home.
Ated Rwot Community Now
Clean water is now available within the community for drinking, cooking, and daily hygiene. Reduced water collection times allow families to spend more time on farming, education, and household responsibilities.
Reliable access to safe water also lowers the risk of waterborne illness and supports healthier living conditions for children and adults alike.
Use & Upkeep
A Water User Committee oversees daily use and cleanliness of the borehole. Trained local hand pump technicians manage first-line repairs and coordinate with sub-county and district authorities when additional technical support is required.
