Mwendanfuko Primary School Before the Well
Before the borehole was drilled, the school’s only water source was a nearby well that did not belong to the school. Access was limited, and students could only use it some of the time.
To reach the well, children had to walk along a busy road. Teachers were always concerned that a child could be hit by a car. And when students arrived, they sometimes found the well padlocked. They would return to school without any water.
What We Built at Mwendanfuko Primary School
Drop in the Bucket drilled a borehole well on the school grounds to give students and staff reliable access to clean water. The well includes a standard hand pump, a reinforced concrete apron, and upgraded stainless-steel riser pipes to improve durability.
Having clean water on-site supports drinking water needs, hygiene routines, and a safer school day without children walking to an off-campus water source.
Mwendanfuko Primary School Now
With clean water now available at the school, students can drink safely and stay hydrated throughout the day. Teachers no longer have to worry about children walking along a busy road to find water or returning empty-handed when the well is locked.
Reliable water on campus helps students stay in class, improves hygiene, and supports a healthier learning environment.
Use & Upkeep
School leadership oversees daily use and cleanliness of the borehole. Routine maintenance and first-line repairs are managed locally, with additional technical support coordinated through sub-county and district authorities when required.
