Opok “A” Village Before the Well
Opok “A” Village is located in Koch-Goma Sub-County in Nwoya District, northern Uganda. Before the borehole was drilled, households in the village did not have access to a reliable source of clean water.
Families relied on distant and often unsafe water sources, increasing daily workloads and exposing community members to waterborne illness. Collecting water took time away from farming, education, and other household responsibilities.
What We Built in Opok “A” Village
Drop in the Bucket drilled a community borehole well and installed a standard hand pump with a reinforced concrete apron and upgraded stainless-steel riser pipes. The site was selected to provide safe, central access for households across the village.
The new borehole provides a dependable source of clean water close to home for village families.
Opok “A” Village Now
Clean water is now available within the community for drinking, cooking, and daily hygiene. Reduced water collection times allow households to focus more on farming, caring for their families, and other essential activities.
Reliable access to safe water also helps reduce waterborne illness and improves overall health for the 66 households benefiting from the well.
Use & Upkeep
A Water User Committee oversees daily use and cleanliness of the borehole. Trained local hand pump technicians manage first-line repairs and coordinate with sub-county and district authorities when additional technical support is required.
