The Akany primary school is located in the Amach Sub-County of the Lira District in northern Uganda. Before Drop in the Bucket drilled a well for the Akany primary, the school had only 224 pupils. The school is in an isolated, remote part of Lira and although we normally don’t help such small schools, the parents’ eagerness and the staff’s dedication won us over. In the summer of 2008 Drop in the Bucket installed a well for the school with plans to later install toilets, a roundabout pump and a septic system in the future, once the school enrollment increased.
