The Atake-Kongo community well is located in Kongo Village in the Omodoi Sub County of the Katakwi district in the Teso district of Uganda.
Before the drilling of the community well, the people of Kongo village had to go to a neighboring village in order to get clean water. This village was over 6kms away which meat a 12 km walk. This meant that the water they were drinking was from nearer water holes like the one pictured in the slideshow.
Now that Drop in the bucket has provided them with a well, the time spent collecting water has been greatly reduced which has freed up a lot of time and labour for farm work and other income generating activities. This has led to increased household incomes and wealth creation.
