For generation, St. Vincent Buliganwa Primary School and the surrounding community depended on unsafe sources—a swamp half a kilometer away during the dry season, and roadside puddles and ditches after it had rained. Children routinely fell ill with stomach ailments from contaminated water, missed class to fetch it, and lost valuable learning time to sickness. The sad truth was that most of the ailments that were causing them to miss school were caused by the dirty water that they were drinking from the swamp. We immediately knew that clean water would change everything for students of the school and the people living in Buliganwa village.
>p>And today everything has changed! The school now has a new deep borehole well, fitted with an India Mk ii hand pump. The well is located on the school grounds and provides clean, safe water just a few steps from every classroom. Instead of long walks to a swamp, pupils can drink clean water between lessons; teachers can focus on teaching rather than managing water runs; and families nearby have reliable access, even after school hours.
