The first thing that impressed us about the Dokolo Kamuda primary school was how well organized the school and community were. The school was founded by local parents and has not been taken over by the government. One of the things that made this school stand out was that the community would come and cook food for the children every day. To this day they still do not have a cook on staff, the parents are still cooking the students lunch every day. Before the well, the parents had to fetch water every day to cook the food. They had to walk 3.5 kms to a swamp as it was the only water source around.

Because the parents were so well organized, we decided to set up one of our first village savings groups in the area and every time we go back to the school we are impressed by how much the community is thriving.
