Before the well
Safe water on-site was not available. Households in the Kalongak community depended on distant and often unsafe water sources, increasing daily workloads and health risks, particularly during the dry season.
What We Built in the Kalongak community
Drop in the Bucket drilled a community borehole well and installed a standard hand pump with a reinforced concrete apron and upgraded stainless-steel riser pipes. The site was selected to ensure safe, central access for households across the community.
Kalongak now
Clean water is now available within the community for drinking, cooking, and daily hygiene. Reduced collection times allow families to focus more on farming, education, and household responsibilities.
Use & Upkeep
A Water User Committee oversees daily use and cleanliness of the borehole. Trained local hand pump technicians manage first-line repairs and work with sub-county and district authorities when additional support is required.
