Kweyo

Bringing clean water to Kweyo village was a unique project for Drop in the Bucket. While the majority of the wells we drill are in remote areas, Kweyo, is located within the Gulu city limits in Northern Uganda.

While many parts of Gulu have piped water, Kweyo village is an exception: the city’s water system did not reach the village, leaving over 400 men, 430 women, and numerous children without access to clean water. When the local government reached out for help, we knew we had to step in.

The impact of the new well in Kweyo has been transformative. Access to clean water has led to immediate health benefits, significantly reducing waterborne diseases. Women and children no longer need to spend time fetching water from distant, unreliable sources, freeing up time for education and economic activities.

Kweyo village shows once again that every community, whether remote or urban, deserves access to safe, clean water. At Drop in the Bucket, we remain dedicated to reaching more communities and bringing them the hope and opportunities that come with reliable water access.
