Clean Water Transforms Lamdogi Village School in Omoro District, Uganda
The Need for Clean Water in Lamdogi Village
The local community in Lamdogi village, located in the Omoro District of Uganda, faced a significant challenge. Despite having established a school, there was no clean water source. The staff and community were eager for the school to grow and expand, but they knew without a reliable source of safe water, that dream would remain out of reach.
Drop in the Bucket’s Impact on Lamdogi School
When Drop in the Bucket visited Lamdogi village, we recognized that the most effective place to drill a well would be right on the school property. With 594 people living in close proximity to the school, and the number expected to grow as word spread about the new water source, it became clear that access to clean water would not only support the school’s growth but also uplift the entire community.
Before the well was drilled, the nearest water source was over 1 km away, and even that water was unsafe to drink. The community relied on streams and local waterholes, often shared with livestock, putting everyone’s health at risk.
Drilling for Clean Water: A Success Story
On November 18th, 2021, Drop in the Bucket’s skilled surveyors identified an accessible water source close by. After drilling down 50 meters, we reached a large aquifer, providing the school with a steady and safe water supply. We installed an India Mk II hand pump on the well, which now delivers 1.5 cubic meters of clean, safe water every hour—more than enough to meet the school’s needs.
The Impact of Clean Water on the School and Community
The addition of a reliable clean water source has already had a profound effect on Lamdogi village. With clean water readily available, students and staff no longer have to spend valuable time and energy traveling long distances to collect unsafe water. Now, the school can focus on its primary mission—educating the next generation.
Moreover, the well serves as a beacon of hope for future expansion. As the community grows, this well will continue to be a key resource for students, teachers, and villagers alike, enabling them to focus on building a brighter future.
