Lamin Ayila

Lamin Ayila (Omoro) — Borehole Well

Project Snapshot

  • Location: Lamin Ayila village, Omoro District, northern Uganda
  • Users Served: 900 beneficiaries
  • Intervention: Drilled borehole well with hand pump, concrete apron, and upgraded stainless-steel riser pipes
  • Status: Completed

Before

Households in the village relied on distant or unprotected sources. Long walks, queues, and exposure to unsafe water were common, especially during rainy-season flooding and dry-season shortages.

What We Built in Lamin Ayila

Drop in the Bucket drilled a deep borehole fitted with an India mk ii hand pump with a reinforced concrete apron and upgraded stainless-steel riser pipes. The site was selected for central, safe access and straightforward maintenance.

Lamin Ayila Now

Clean water is now available within the village for drinking, cooking, and daily hygiene. Collection time is reduced, health risks are lowered, and families have a predictable nearby source that supports school, work, and home routines.

Use & Upkeep

A Water User Committee oversees daily use and cleanliness. Trained local hand pump technicians handle first-line repairs and escalate to sub-county/district authorities as needed.

Notes

  • Type: Borehole well with hand pump (community)
  • Primary users: Households in the Omoro District
  • Hygiene: Keep the apron clear; encourage handwashing at home and public points
  • Related: See water facts for why replacing unsafe sources with boreholes matters.
