Lamoki (Nwoya) — Borehole Well
Project Snapshot
- Location: Lamoki village, Nwoya District, northern Uganda
- Community: Lamoki
- Users Served: Community members in Lamoki (Nwoya District)
- Intervention: Drilled borehole well with hand pump, concrete apron, and upgraded stainless-steel riser pipes
- Status: Completed
Before the well
Safe water on-site was not available. Households relied on seasonal or distant sources, leading to time lost and recurring health risks during rains and dry spells.
What We Built in Lamoki village
Drop in the Bucket drilled a community borehole and installed a standard hand pump with a reinforced concrete apron and upgraded stainless-steel riser pipes. The site was selected for central, safe access and straightforward maintenance. Pump testing confirmed a sustainable yield (see data above).
Lamoki now
Clean water is now available within the village for drinking, cooking, and daily hygiene. Collection time is reduced, and families have a predictable nearby source that supports school, work, and home routines.
Use & Upkeep
A Water User Committee oversees daily use and cleanliness. Trained local hand pump technicians handle first-line repairs and escalate to sub-county/district authorities as needed.
