Lwokagulu Community Before the Well
Before the borehole was drilled, families in Lwokagulu community relied on a polluted waterhole located approximately 1.5 kilometers from the village. This unprotected source was unsafe and exposed residents to waterborne diseases and other health risks.
The distance and poor water quality placed a heavy burden on women and children, who were responsible for collecting water each day. Time spent walking for unsafe water reduced time for household work, farming, school, and rest.
What We Built at Lwokagulu Community
Drop in the Bucket drilled a borehole well to provide a reliable source of clean groundwater for the Lwokagulu community. The well was drilled to a depth of 42 meters and produces a yield of 2.04 cubic meters per hour.
The borehole was equipped with a standard hand pump, a reinforced concrete apron, and upgraded stainless-steel riser pipes to improve durability and water quality.
Lwokagulu Community Now
With clean water now available closer to home, families in Lwokagulu community can collect water more safely and consistently. Reliance on a polluted waterhole has been eliminated, reducing the risk of waterborne illness.
Reliable access to clean water improves daily life and supports better health for all 301 community members.
Use & Upkeep
Community members oversee daily use and cleanliness of the borehole. Routine maintenance and first-line repairs are managed locally, with additional technical support coordinated through sub-county and district authorities when required.
