Maguezane Village

In May 2008, Drop in the Bucket funded a well in Maguezane, Mozambique. This was in our early days as an organization. We no longer fund outside projects and only fund wells drilled by our staff drillers using our drilling rigs. This was Drop in the Bucket’s first well in Mozambique. The well was drilled in a village called Maguezane. A recent cholera outbreak had killed almost a third of the village’s inhabitants in just a year, so we felt compelled to act. The villagers were quick to form a water committee following the guidelines laid out by Drop in the Bucket and the well was efficiently installed a few weeks later. It took three drilling attempts before a sufficient water source was found.
