The Makonzi Boarding and Primary School is located in the Mubende district of central Uganda. The new well at this school provides water to the school and five surrounding villages. The school has 800 pupils who are taught by 14 full time teachers. The school was started by the village parents and was eventually taken over by the government who now support the school. The school has 31 orphans who now also live at the school.

Before the well nearest source of clean water was a well 8 km from the school, this distance was much too far to be of any practical use to the school, so the children were getting their water from a pond that was much nearer. The pond water is very polluted and several children have drowned while getting water from it. The new well changed all of that allowing the children more time each day to spend at school, and making them much safer and healthier.
