The Mother AK Memorial and Nursery School and the Otumpili Day Boarding School are two schools located next door to each other. They are the only schools in a 20 km radius and neither school had clean water. The pupils and staff from both schools used to have to walk to the nearest water source – a water hole 1 km away.
This was a long walk for the primary school students, but was too far for the nursery school children to get to before or during class. Also this was not clean or safe water and the children would often get sick from drinking this contaminated water. The school needed its own source of clean water.
In 2021, Drop in the Bucket staff visited both schools to check out the water situation. Several months later we went back and drilled a well for the schools. Follow this link to read more about the water situation at the Mother AK and Otumpili schools.
