Panycwala Village Before the Well
Before the borehole was drilled, the only water source for Panycwala village was a waterhole located approximately 1.5 km from the village. This source was unprotected and unsafe, exposing families to waterborne diseases and other health risks.
The distance also added to the daily burden of collecting water, especially for women and children. Time spent walking for unsafe water reduced time for school, work, farming, and rest.
What We Built at Panycwala Village
Drop in the Bucket drilled a borehole well to provide a reliable source of clean groundwater for Panycwala village. The well was equipped with a standard hand pump, a reinforced concrete apron, and upgraded stainless-steel riser pipes to improve durability and water quality.
This intervention replaced a distant and unsafe waterhole with a protected water source located within the community.
Panycwala Village Now
With clean water now available closer to home, families in Panycwala village can collect water more safely and consistently. Reduced travel time for water collection helps households keep up with daily responsibilities and hygiene needs.
Reliable access to clean water supports better health and improves daily life for all 636 residents.
Use & Upkeep
Community members oversee daily use and cleanliness of the borehole. Routine maintenance and first-line repairs are managed locally, with additional technical support coordinated through sub-county and district authorities when required.
