Rom Village Before the Well
Before the borehole was drilled, the only water source for Rom village was a waterhole located approximately 1 km from the village. This source was unprotected and unsafe, exposing families to waterborne diseases and other health risks.
Even at a relatively short distance, daily water collection still required time and energy. This burden often fell on women and children.
What We Built at Rom Village
Drop in the Bucket drilled a borehole well to provide a reliable source of clean groundwater for Rom village. The well was equipped with a standard hand pump, a reinforced concrete apron, and upgraded stainless-steel riser pipes to improve durability and water quality.
This intervention replaced an unsafe waterhole with a protected and dependable water source located within the village.
Rom Village Now
With clean water now available closer to home, families in Rom village can collect water more safely and consistently. Reduced dependence on a waterhole helps lower the risk of waterborne illness.
Reliable access to clean water supports better health and improves daily life for all 651 residents.
Use & Upkeep
Community members oversee daily use and cleanliness of the borehole. Routine maintenance and first-line repairs are managed locally, with additional technical support coordinated through sub-county and district authorities when required.
