In situations where a roundabout pump is not ideal, we often substitute a solar pump instead. Solar pumps utilize the sun to pump water from the aquifer to the surface. They are particularly well suited for large secondary schools, clinics or health centers. The biggest advantage of a solar pump is a continuous source of clean water that requires no manual pumping, but they are not suitable for every situation. Some of the disadvantages of a solar pump are they are vulnerable to theft and the panels and inverters are coveted components. Another issue is that they are expensive by comparison to hand pumps and more difficult to repair and maintain, but in the right circumstances they are very convenient and an excellent solution.
