Oturuloya Lagwedola in Gulu, Uganda Gets A water Well

Before Drop in the Bucket drilled a well for the community at Oturuloya Lagwedola, the only water source was an open waterhole that could only be described as a stagnant body of water. This waterhole was shared with local livestock and other animals. Animals like cows and goats would stand in the water while drinking which would contaminate the water and make it unsafe to drink. The water was green with active algae growing across its surface. Along with the algae, you could also see tadpoles, insect larvae and other visible contaminants living in the water. This water was not safe for human consumption and the people from the community were constantly sick from drinking it.

One grandmother from the community recounted her personal experiences about the old water source and her relief and joy that the village finally has clean water now. To read her story and the story of this well click this link.
